WEBlynks Science and Technology Blog

Updated: Sep 14, 2023

We're coming back from a focus on backend development, so we haven't posted a blog update in as long. Good News!- We have a beautiful catalog of raw content that we've begun to weave together for smooth and consecutive release.

This blog is the companion this month for all of our YouTube Shorts. Come back here whenever we want more info or source links to continue exploring our network of science and technology breakdowns.

Human DNA is everywhere and Technology can collect it.

A new technique for sampling Environmental DNA, has discovered Human DNA everywhere, even in isolated areas such as the ocean, riverways, and air. Published on May 15 in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution, the research outlines the relative ease of collecting human DNA nearly everywhere they looked. The ethical concerns were also addressed, but it will be up to lawmakers to update privacy policies.

Some black holes may actually be tangles in the fabric of space-time, new research suggests. From space dot com, A new paper discusses how light interacts with theoretical objects called "topological solitons" — kinks in the fabric of space-time that look just like black holes. By Paul Sutter, Physicists have discovered a strange twist of space-time that can mimic black holes — until you get too close. Known as "topological solitons," these theoretical kinks in the fabric of space-time could lurk all around the universe – and finding them could push forward our understanding of quantum physics, according to a new study published in the journal Physical Review D.

Newly Discovered Brain Mechanism Linked to Anxiety and OCD Microglia, a minor cell type in the brain, has been revealed to play a significant role in controlling anxiety-related behaviors. A study conducted by scientists at the University of Utah Health, discovered that certain populations of microglia can trigger anxiety and OCSD behaviors, while others inhibit them. The groundbreaking discovery could lead to improved treatments for behavioral regulation.

Scientists Successfully Transmit Space-Based Solar Power to Earth for the First Time. Researchers at Caltech have reportedly beamed solar power from space to Earth without a single wire—and they say it’s a first. The power transfer experiment was conducted using the Microwave Array for Power-transfer Low-orbit Experiment, or MAPLE, which is a small prototype aboard the in-orbit Space Solar Power Demonstrator. This innovation could lead to democratized access to energy.
